[ReachOut.com] We're at my old high school which is St. George Girls High. It just feels so much smaller. Like I remember when you had to finish up your lunch and then get to the library or finish your lunch and get to the next place to get to class it felt like it would take ages because it would take two minutes to walk somewhere. [ReachOut.com presents] [There's Life After Year 12 Exams] [Linda Marigliano] It's where i spent my years growing up. Spent all of high school here. This was the year 12 study hangout spot. Have fun in here this is ours and ours alone, we have limited time in this sacred space study hard, party hard and enjoy yourselves. I remember people saying it when I was at school you know. These are the best years in life. Enjoy them make some good friends. And that was essentially what we did. This is where i met all of my best friends that I'm still best friends with today. So we met on the first day of high school ever. Me and my three best friends. Sophie, Samantha and Mishka. We've been best friends ever since. I don't think my parents really put pressure on me. [Micheal and Janet. Linda's parents] As long as you apply to your study that's all I asked for. > Linda. I remember feeling a little a little bit of pressure that I put on myself but in general, it was ok. It was ok and it was about really finding that balance. I knew when I had to study but I also really wanted to be social. > Janet. Even the exam coming up next week.. Hey mum, I had to go to this party but then come down to the exam she would study. > Linda. You're at that age when you finally starting to have like real fun at house parties and get some pieces and you can start to go out on your own. This is my locker! Oh my god! 5038. This was it. I thought it was so much higher when I was in high school. I know I've really grown really tall but this is it. A picture of Leonardo Dicaprio on the inside of it. Like a lot of kids I think you just want to get to the end of high school and have done it and be okay at the end of it. I knew that I wanted to do music. I knew that i wanted to work in broadcasting. > Janet. When the result came she was over the moon and she was in tears. She said 'mum, mum, mum.. she go 'guess what, guess what', I said what you like to do? She goes 'media'. > Linda. Definitely knew deep down that that's what I wanted and so it was obvious to me that out of Uni, if i could do a media degree and focus on radio. That's what i did. > Micheal. I'd sort of up sneaked into a room and seen she was having writing little notes to herself and talking to self in the mirror and soon as she saw you sneaking in and she's sort of like what, and then you have to realize that was a time that she was expressing I think what is she doing now, you know, presenting. > Linda. While I was at Uni and doing community radio and doing other bits and pieces my friends and I started a band and it was a band that we actually said we were always going to start, when we were talking about it right here. That's the thing that you learn, as soon as you finish high school and as soon as you start to go into what they call, you know, the 'real world' where you go and study or you go and start working and you're going, you know what all that stuff didn't matter as much as you thought it did. As hard as it is to say don't be overwhelmed by it, just don't be. Because it's really not that big of a deal. You will be able to get through it and no matter what path you want to get to, you'll be able to get there. [#thereslifeafter] [ReachOut.com]
