> Rahart. This is my backyard. It's very nice out here. We've got a playground but it's um it's broken. [ReachOut.com presents] [There's Life After Year 12 Exams] [Rahart and Zarmina Adams] > Rahart. I'm Rahart Adams and this is my little sister Zarmina. > Zarmina. I'm in Year 12 next year. When I was in Year 12 I had to balance work life and school life and it was really difficult to get those SATs done, all those tests done and all the study that was required for the end of year exams, ah, so I basically dedicated half of the year to work and then in between work and the weekends, I would study. My little brother does a lot of gardening. Ah, you can see this is his you know best piece of work here. He's not that good at it. What was your memory of my Year 12 exams? > Zamira. Um, lots of emotional rollercoasters. > Rahart. Really? > Zarmina. Yeah. > Rahart. It wasn't that bad was it? > Zamira. I think I'm worse. > Rahart. I think you are worse. I don't think I was that bad. That's my dog Mickey. > Zamira. Come here! The beginning when I started Year 12 I like hadn't done my first SAT and i was already breaking down. Just the thought of Year 12, but I'm a few weeks until my exams and I'm feeling a lot better because of the support that I have at the moment. > Rahart. She's always studying so I might crack a joke about her studying you know, make it light-hearted and make sure she knows that it's not that serious you know. We get lots of like, lots of wildlife, lots of different birds, heaps of rabbits. Sometimes we have lizards, snakes. > Zarmina. Socializing during Year 12 and working has been hard to maintain as well. Sometimes I try to go to coffees at least one day after school each week, um, but it is difficult > Rahart. She's exaggerating. > Zamira. What are you talking about? > Rahart. She goes for coffee sometimes it's not all doom and gloom. > Zamira. Sometimes. Once a week. > Rahart. Somehow you make it sound like it's doom and gloom all the time. > Zamira. It actually is... [laughter] > Rahart. Since Year 12 was over and done with. I packed up and went overseas, I went to America. I worked on TV shows for Nickelodeon. For the ABC back here in Australia, I did some filming up in Canada as well. That was heaps of fun. I did a bunch of travelling and I, you know, broadened my horizons. I wanted to learn about the world and wanted to discover myself as well as you know working wherever I could. I wasn't gonna let what my VC score by ATAR score was going to affect whatever it was I gonna do after Year 12. That was always the thing for me. Everyone should know that Year 12 really isn't the end the world. It's not the end-all, be-all there was plenty of things to do after Year 12. Even if you don't get into the subject that you want to in university or even if you don't go to university it's not the end of the world there is so many things you can do in this world that have nothing to do with high school. Nothing to do with university whatsoever. It's not the end of the world if you don't get the result that you wanted to there is a life after Year 12. [#thereslifeafter] [Reachout.com]
