[ReachOut.com] Well, this is basically the Turnout Room. So when our pagers go off we've got about three minutes to get down here to the station. So, at that 3-minute mark there's alot of people coming through here. This is all our gear lined up. Mine's actually on this side. We'll flick over this side. So quickly you just pull this down, you've taken off your shoes, you jump'in into here. Very involved with the community - with the fire brigade thing out in the country you connect to the community and the best way to connect with a community is with the local fire brigade. Getting a couple calls a day, sometimes going out in the middle of the night and getting home, getting an hour's sleep and then going off to 'Neighbours'. [ReachOut.com presents] [There's Life After Year 12 Exams] [Andrew Morley] I'm currently acting on 'Neighbours'. Previously most people know me from 'Home and Away'. Before that I was at uni studying Civil Engineering. During high school I had no, no inkling to jump into acting or any drama. I did some acting classes and I enjoyed it. Got a good group of friends out of it and just followed that. The tanker here so that's a 34C - it holds about 3,500 litres. 4WD tanker. With our Pumper here, it carries about 2,000 litres. I landed my first children's series six months after I considered acting. Then that gave me the opportunity to become an actor on 'Home and Away'. Did a couple years on that. Absolutely loved that. Grew again and then took some time off to finish off my studies. When we're at fires. At structure fires. Firefighters wear... wear these things. Although I may never use my engineering degree and I might become an actor of some caliber that could live off that or I could use my knowledge in my own businesses or become a permanent firefighter - there's so many opportunities that I could take and I guess that's the exciting part of life. Looking back at high school I did not know where I'll be right now. Final year it was um, my head was down and I just wanted to get good results to get into RMIT. The workload definitely was the hardest part of it as well as the pressure of going to parties. And um, I guess finding your feet in society. You're developing, you're going through puberty and you're interested in girls and guys and whatever. And you want to, I guess, you know, find some independence in that. And then you've got school on the side that you need to put effort into. So it was a very stressful time of my life and you know there were times that I'll just get home, close myself in my room and just zone out. Just, just bury my head. Get some food and then go ok, what do I need to do tonight? And it was, it was really a hard time in my life and looking back I wouldn't want to do it again, but we all need to do it. There's so much that we gain from that. Like the discipline of studying we take on in our world every day after that. So we go to car accidents fuel leaking, um, hazchem...any of that stuff structure fires, being house fires, bin fires, factory fires, um... I was lucky enough to be brought up on a farm so I could just escape. And I had pigs as well which I'd go feed. They didn't care what i was doing at school, they didn't care how much study or whatever they just wanted to be fed! The world is your oyster. You know. We need to do school, but then after that you can do what you want! Just take what you got from school and you will go and... and just you know, make a business, make a fortune, just do what makes you happy. [#thereslifeafter] [ReachOut.com]
