It’s natural for you as a parent or carer to worry about your teenager if their anxiety is impacting their daily life. There are a number of things that you can try to help your teenager manage anxiety. If you'd like to understand more about what causes anxiety and the impact it can have, read our fact sheet on Anxiety and teenagers.

Some key advice that Jason and Lisa have for other parents after their experience with their child's mental health issues:

  • Online resources are available 24/7, wherever and whenever you need them. When the kids are asleep, you can get online and have some quiet time to learn more and get support.

  • Don't be afraid to ask questions. The first solution given to you might not be the best one. Try this flowchart to find out what kind of support is the best for you and your family.

  • You're not alone. While people might not speak openly about mental health issues, it's really common. Check out the ReachOut Parents Forums to anonymously share with other parents or read about other parents' experiences.
