It's important for you child to be aware of their anxiety and some techniques that they can use to cope and manage their symptoms. There are also things that your child can do to avoid making their anxiety worse.

Anxiety can be triggered by:

  • Lack of sleep
  • Major life events
  • Poor health
  • Illness
  • Hormonal changes
  • Alcohol and other drugs

Taking positive and active steps to prevent your child from experiencing anxiety may include things such as:

  • Developing good sleep patterns
  • Getting help with stress
  • Supporting them through major life changes
  • Eating well and avoiding stimulants such as coffee and energy drinks
  • Regular exercise
  • Regular health checks
  • Seeing a GP to check hormone levels and take medical advice if necessary
  • Avoiding alcohol and other drugs

Some people find therapy is helpful to manage their anxiety. Be open to this as effective management of anxiety is possible, but often ongoing support and monitoring is necessary.
